Summary[]

Banta Diet is based on the idea of what the authors called Fat burning Index: "Fat Burning Index is a tool that allows scientists to define potential influences of foods on lipolysis - the process of “burning” body fat for fuel. The higher the Index, the more fat your body will burn," is explained on the diet's website bantadiet.com

How It Works[]

The diet suggests a food list calculated for high Fat Burning Index. To calculate, they used the ketogenic formula developed by Wilder in 1920s and still in use in clinics as the Baltimore protocol.

Foods on this list can be consumed without portion control and calorie counting because, the authors state, "Any food is either ketogenic or anti-ketogenic depending on its influence on insulin and its antagonist glucagon. To make lipolysis (fat burning) possible, a meal should contain at least 1.5 g of fat per every 1 g of protein plus carbohydrate combined."

What You Can Eat[]

Here's the most interesting part of it: any food is OK if combine with complementing food(s) to make a high enough Fat Burning Index. For example, if you wish to make a salad and you take 2 leaves Romaine lettuce, or 1 leaf Iceberg lettuce, or 1/2 cup of endive, or 1/3 cup of Broccoli -- you must add either 1 tablespoon of any vegetable oil, or 2 tablespoons of sour cream, or I oz cream cheese. You may prorate these ratios and eat any amount of the salad.

They have 180 recipes calculated for high Fat Burning Index. Here's what they offer as a sample lunch.
